Dear TWU Community,
Sunday (Nov. 27, 2022) was the first day of this year's Advent; Christians worldwide use this time to prepare our hearts for Christmas.
As the world turns to adorn homes with decorations, lights, and glittering ornaments, the season of Advent invites each of us to pause and reflect on how Christ entered the world.
Jesus of Nazareth was born in a humble stable. No one offered Mary a “suitable” place to deliver the Son of God. May we take time this Advent to prepare our hearts as a “home” in which to receive the gift and presence of the Word made flesh.
Perhaps we can learn from what occurred in Bethlehem, where God restored the relationship between God and humanity, inaugurating the long-awaited renewal of all things. How might God be working in our lives and communities to bring about the good news of healing and renewal?
Let us not miss the gift and promise of Advent. May each of us look forward to the Light that “shines in the darkness” (John 1:5), and may we find moments of peace, reflection, and thanksgiving amidst the busyness of the end of the semester and preparation for Christmas.
I would love to share with you several ways that I have been blessed to serve at a global Christian university this fall. Earlier this month, I had the privilege of working with excellent TWU partners in Delhi, Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, and Bangalore, India, and with alumni/ae communities in Calgary, Alberta. The depth of relationships and the global reach of our university remains a source of tremendous encouragement.
This fall, we celebrated the achievement of over 550 students who graduated from TWU’s GLOBAL and graduate programs. We also held an event to celebrate the opening of TWU’s newest Lansdowne location in Richmond. Our newest Richmond location advances leadership and business education within an urban, multi-cultural city.
We are thrilled that our community is comprised of a diverse collection of students from over 80 different countries. Every student brings with them a unique and valuable set of experiences, cultures, knowledge, and intellectual gifts. We at TWU believe that every person has remarkable potential, value, and dignity. I pray that all faculty and staff continue to find joy and purpose in helping TWU to be a place where we continue to experience the rich intersection of cultures, experiences, knowledge, skills, innovation, hope, and faith in Christ.
I am humbled and amazed by the richness of global cultures at TWU. We have so much to learn from one another. In this season of Advent, may you experience the joy, blessing, and gift of Immanuel, God with us (Matt. 1:23).
Grace and peace,
