Trinity Western University is excited to announce Aaron Gruenhage as the winner of the TWU Grand Scholarship Prize, a four-year full tuition scholarship. On Wednesday, June 12, an enthusiastic crowd greeted Gruenhage and his parents when he came to campus for the prize presentation, including personal congratulations from TWU’s interim President, Bob Kuhn.
After a warm reception, Gruenhage answered a few questions on what winning the scholarship meant to him. “All I have to do is be thankful and work hard,” he said, “I heard a lot about the outstanding community, and I’m excited about the possibility of living on campus and playing for the Bombers hockey team.” Gruenhage’s parents, Bernd and Sandra, shared their excitement for their son, saying they were “absolutely thrilled,” and adding that, most importantly, this means “he’ll come out with an excellent education, but also a foundation in God.”
Gruenhage is a Grade 12 student from Yale Secondary School in Abbotsford, BC, who had entered the scholarship contest at TWU’s booth at Missions Fest this past January. He was hoping to attend Trinity Western, but he was uncertain how he would be able to pay for it. Winning the scholarship made a TWU education a reality for him. When asked how the scholarship made a difference in his plans for the future, Aaron said he plans on studying at Trinity Western’s School of Business for his degree with the goal to eventually own a small business or work in sports management.
With a history of academic excellence and faith-based learning, Trinity Western University is known for its vision of transforming lives through Christ-centred higher education. As with all incoming students, TWU staff and faculty wish Aaron all the best as he begins his journey at the University in the fall, and warmly welcome him to the Trinity Western community.
The scholarship contest was the culmination of a year’s collection of entries at various TWU-sponsored events, including the Starfield and Toby Mac cross-Canada concert tours, as well as local events, Missionsfest, and Historymakers.
Scholarships are still available and applications are welcome for the fall. For further information on how to apply, please visit www.twu.ca/apply.
