"We are a people gathered from across many nations, and together, we have the remarkable opportunity to offer a global witness to the work of God in our midst."
— President Mark Husbands
On September 8, TWU officially inaugurated the 2021/2022 academic year through Convocation Chapel.
Every year, Convocation Chapel is a time of communal worship and re-centering on the Gospel. This year's event marked the first time the TWU community gathered together for Convocation in-person, since the start of the pandemic.
"It is a joy to be with you on this occasion," said President Husbands, addressing those who were participating in-person at the Langley campus and those who were joining online via livestream. "We are thrilled to be here with each of you."
Gathering as a global Christian university
This year's Convocation showcased the diversity of TWU as a global Christian university. As part of the Convocation program, TWU students representing several different countries read the University's theme Scripture verses for the year, 2 Timothy 3:16-17, aloud in their mother language.
"We are a people gathered from across many nations, and together, we have the remarkable opportunity to offer a global witness to the work of God in our midst," President Husbands said.
"All who call upon Christ, share a common identity and hope. A hope, as I am about to share, that is built upon the Word of God."
President Husbands spoke on 2 Timothy 3:16-17, the reference verses of TWU's theme for 2021-22: "Equipped for every good work."
The TWU Chapel worship team led musical worship, while members of the University's leadership—Patricia Victor, Rev. Dr. James Ellis III, Provost Wood and Rebecca Swaim—all took part in leading aspects of the event.
Throughout the academic year, Chapel takes place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 11:00-11:30am. Chapel is accessible in-person, online via livestream in real-time, or anytime on the TWU Chapel YouTube channel.
