See you this summer

Trinity Western University offers innovative learning opportunities at its Langley campus and across the globe over the summer. Whether you want to accelerate your education, advance your career, or attend a conference, TWU Summer Sessions has a program that suits your needs and fits your schedule.

Current students

Second year psychology student Daniel Hurst is looking forward to taking the Art 290 summer session. “It will count towards my concentration in art and I’ll get to put all my efforts into one course,” he said. A variety of one-, three-, and six-week undergraduate and graduate courses are offered from April to August. Retreat courses—offered in photography and psychology and spirituality—are unique weeklong courses that take learning outdoors; students enjoy horseback riding, canoeing and campfires on a ranch in 100 Mile House, B.C. For students out of town over the summer, online courses are available in several disciplines.

Grade school students

TWU hosts Science in the Valley, a hands-on interactive fieldtrip for students from grades four to nine. Teachers can bring their classes to experience a two-hour workshop in a university science lab or spend the full day in our Eco-Systems area learning about salmon, their habitat and the effects of human impact. Spartan summer camps are offered for kids of all ages and skill levels to experience high-level coaching in volleyball, basketball and soccer.

Working professionals

For those looking to upgrade their qualifications, TWU’s adult degree completion program runs through the summer months with convenient weekly evening classes and accelerated six-week courses in a flexible blend of on-campus and online learning.

Teachers

The Summer Institute for Teachers offers elementary, middle and high school teachers practical courses for professional development. Whether you’re applying for a Bachelor of Education program and need to complete prerequisites or are a teacher from outside BC and need to meet the professional certification requirements, you can complete one or all of your courses in convenient evening formats between May and August. Also available is the TESOL Certificate.

Team training

Omada Training (Pro D) is a unique program that develops strong teams and leaders through exciting training workshops. Choose from our corporate, educational, or church group team building programs that include rowing and a high ropes course.

Travel studies

TWU is known for its one-of-a-kind travel studies courses that offer students a truly life-changing experience. This summer, students will travel to Cameroon, Guatemala, Honduras, Israel, Kenya and Uganda, London, Ottawa, Salt Spring Island, and Zambia. What’s more, every summer TWU sends teams around the globe to do one- to two-month development/missions projects. The 2011 teams will partner with local organizations in Brazil, Costa Rica, Fort Babine, and Haiti to complete projects in health care, micro-finance, sports and education.

Conferences

TWU is pleased to be hosting the Tourism BC Conference that will draw an audience from the local sport, tourism, and business community. Volleyball teams from across Canada will stay at TWU while they compete at the Volleyball Nationals at TRADEX in Abbotsford. Other groups staying on campus are: Chilliwack minor football, Canada Institute of Linguistics, Headford Cultural Group, International Student Ministries Canada, and West Coast Armature Musician Society.
