TWU Chamber Music night

On Wednesday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m., Trinity Western University’s School of the Arts, Media and Culture will present an evening of Chamber Music in the Instrumental Rehearsal Hall featuring four diverse ensembles. Audience members will be treated to music for guitar ensemble, clarinet trio, wind quintet and a movement of a double cello concerto.

“Seeing students excited about playing chamber music together reminds me why I love my job so much,” said Allan Thorpe, Ph.D., the Director of Instrumental Activities.

What’s on the menu for the evening? The guitar ensemble will perform a number of well-known classical rock pieces, including the Beatles, Kansas and Eric Clapton. The clarinet trio will perform a movement by Beethoven, originally written for two oboes and English horn. The wind quintet will perform three diverse works: a peaceful “Pastorale” by Pierne, a jaunty movement from Ibert’s “trios pièces” and a rambunctious finale by Hindemith. The opening movement from Vivaldi’s “Concerto for Two Cellos” will close the evening with high-energy sequences of scales and arpeggios.

This event is part of the Festival of the Arts, Media + Culture at Trinity Western University, March 29-April 11 — two weeks of art, literature, music, film, and theatre events that showcase and celebrate the creative activity of TWU students and faculty.
