Dear TWU Community,
Journeying together with you this fall, my prayer has been that each of you will sense God’s care and plan for you to flourish. Flourishing is an invitation to reimagine our lives, relationships, and work in light of the biblical narrative of God’s creation, redemption, and renewal of the world.
What great joy and comfort it is to entrust our work to a God who calls you to “commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established” (Prov. 16:3) because “the LORD has made everything for its purpose" (Prov. 16:4a). We can learn from the psalmist, who lifts his eyes, looking for help that "comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth" and trusts that "he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep" (Ps. 121:2, 4). As Christ himself taught, not one sparrow “will fall to the ground apart from your Father” (Matt. 10:29).
When we stop to reflect upon the meaning and value of our work, we have much for which to be thankful. TWU continues to experience significant growth as a global Christian university. TWU has broken another enrolment record, with an incoming class of 1,596 new students studying on our campuses this fall. Our master’s degree programs have experienced remarkable growth, and graduate students now represent 47% of our student population. We gladly welcome all who have chosen to join us on the path to pursue Christian higher education. The experiences and perspectives of our global student body are incredible gifts to our campus community.
We are especially delighted this November to have celebrated the accomplishments of 599 graduands from our graduate studies and GLOBAL undergraduate programs. A warm congratulations to our fall 2023 graduating class!
The success of our graduates is an affirmation of the value of faith-based education and a testament of God’s gracious work in and through our lives. At TWU’s Homecoming event in September, we honoured alumni who are contributing to the good of the world. This year’s Alumni Awards recipients are author and theologian Dr. Hanna Lucas, international development advocate Nikki Whaites, and non-profit leadership veteran Kory Sorensen. May their lives inspire us to live faithfully.
You may be encouraged to know that we have begun moving forward on several key priorities of our new Strategic Plan TWU 2030, which will increase opportunities for students to experience Christ-centred education and learning that equips them for today’s global challenges.
We are preparing to launch TWU Online to increase access to a Trinity Western education for students around the globe. We are also keen to secure the financial resources required to fund two new endowed chairs (New Testament and Christian Theology) and establish a Centre for Excellence in Faith, Learning, and Life to enrich the lives and minds of Christian leaders. As well, we are developing an Innovation-Driven Entrepreneur Lab to foster creative thinking and active response to the world’s pressing and profound needs.
All this welcomes your participation as friends and supporters of TWU. We are deeply grateful for your shared partnership in the life equipping of TWU students. We humbly invite your continued participation and support as we progress towards the vision to see every graduate equipped for the good of the world and the glory of God.
May you experience God’s richest blessing as you offer your life back to God for his good purposes and glory.
Grace and peace,
Mark Husbands, PhD
President
