The current pandemic context has presented many new challenges for both students and educators — challenges that may naturally lead to increased levels of stress and fatigue.
Recently, Dr. Adrienne Castellon, Associate Dean of the MA Leadership program, spoke on the timely topic of the mental and emotional costs of teaching during COVID-19. She was featured in a Surrey Schools Mental Health and Wellness educational series hosted by Daniel To, Surrey Schools District Principal of Education Services (Specialty Programs).
Dr. Castellon addressed the consequences of "decentralized learning" for learners, which include sleep disorders and difficulties in concentration. To counter this, she provided tips for educators on how to reach out to students, offer extra support and reminders, increase content redundancy and be intentional in learner care. Dr. Castellon also discussed how current social and political issues may affect learners living in various cities and places around the globe. She noted that educators and learners alike may be exerting extra effort to excel academically during this time.
Listen to how Dr. Castellon tackles many relevant issues in this conversation hosted by Surrey Schools Health and Wellness.
