"As TWU finds alumni-specific ways to encourage the ongoing equipping of every graduate — each alum will in turn have a unique and rich offering to make to the alumni community, and to the ongoing work of the University, as together, we work to ensure that the next generation of future alums are well-equipped."
— Brian Kerr, SVP Enrolment, Personal and Career Development.
Trinity Western University seeks to help every graduate thrive. Our vision is "Every graduate is equipped to think truthfully, act justly, and live faithfully for the good of the world and the glory of God."
This commitment to our students and graduates extends beyond graduation day.
Introducing TWU Alumni and Families
Among the newest developments at TWU is the unveiling of our TWU Alumni and Families department.
"The vision for this new department revolves around TWU's vision to see every graduate equipped," said Brian Kerr, SVP Enrolment, Personal and Career Development.
"Those graduates are the alumni community."
Kerr speaks of TWU's enduring commitment to graduates. "As they make the transition from students to alum, our aim is to support and encourage them in their ongoing journey."
TWU's enduring commitment
Kerr believes that the University can be an ongoing resource and a place of encouragement for the TWU alumni community, as they journey through new phases of life.
"While it is a different kind of relationship from when they were students, the essence is the same," he said, referencing TWU's attention to community care and pursuit of the University's mission.
"The three most desired connecting points seem to be around ongoing professional development, spiritual formation, and social engagement."
What's more, TWU's relationship with alumni is reciprocal.
"As TWU finds alumni-specific ways to encourage the ongoing equipping of every graduate — each alum will in turn have a unique and rich offering to make to the alumni community, and to the ongoing work of the University, as together, we work to ensure that the next generation of future alums are well-equipped," said Kerr.
Research-based development of alumni services
Kerr explains that he and his team have conducted two extensive surveys with the alumni community this year. He reports that the research shows, "There is a strong desire to remain connected to the University and to each other."
He adds, "The three most desired connecting points seem to be around ongoing professional development, spiritual formation, and social engagement."
"The top being professional development."
This is great news, as TWU is well-prepared to support graduates in this way. As Kerr says, "This affords us great opportunity to use the strength that we are developing in our Centre for Calling and Career Development, and adapt key elements for the alumni community," Kerr said.
"We also have the opportunity to invite the alumni community into the equipping of each other and of current students."
