Dr. Angela Wolff – Recipient of TWU Award for the Advancement of Nursing Knowledge

Congratulations to Dr. Angela Wolff, recently awarded the TWU Award for the Advancement of Nursing Knowledge, for a two-year term.  The purpose of the award is to provide scholarship that advances nursing knowledge and enriches the School of Nursing and TWU.

Angela’s scholarly activity will build on her program of research in education and health, human resources planning and management, with three foci:

  1. Retention by mitigating negative collegial behaviours, embracing diversity, and fostering quality work environments where providers work and students learn.
  2. Recruitment by building capacity for students in the health system, preparing newly graduated nurses for practice, and creating effective programs for students transitioning to professional roles.
  3. Integrated knowledge translation aimed to change practice behaviours.

Angela will be further validating an instrument to measure the quality of clinical learning environments.  She will be conducting psychometric testing on the 29-item CLES+T.

Another activity will involve examining student placement and utilization patterns, using data from Health Services Placement Network (HSPnet), a clinical placement database in the BC Lower Mainland since 2003.

Finally, Angela is also involved in a nursing education research initiative on person-centred, collaborative care among nursing students using quality of life (QOL) assessments.

Of this Award, Angela says:  I am honored to receive this award to support the advancement of nursing knowledge. I am excited to be integrating the research about the environments where patient care is provided, students learn, and nurses work. This research serves to support our undergraduate nursing students in the practical component of their studies. Furthermore, understanding clinical placement utilization trends aims to foster collaborative partnerships with our partners in healthcare to address capacity issues. Last, fostering students’ use of QOL assessments in their undergraduate education prepares them with cutting edge knowledge to lead the future of healthcare. As a faithful servant these words of scripture come to mind, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
