On behalf of the Board of Governors, Trinity Western University announces the commencement of Todd F. Martin, PhD, as Interim President.

Dr. Martin assumed this interim role on July 1, 2024, following the announcement of Dr. Mark Husbands’ completion of a five-year presidential term.

Chair of TWU’s Board of Governors, Matthew St. John remarks, “We are delighted that Dr. Martin has accepted the responsibility of interim president. It gives us great confidence to know that Trinity Western University is in good hands with Todd and the executive leadership team. Together with Trinity Western’s leadership, staff, and faculty, we place our full trust in the faithfulness of our Lord Jesus Christ, who continues to lead and sustain us by His grace and goodness, as we seek to walk faithfully in our calling as a global Christian university.”

Currently as Trinity Western’s provost, Todd provides leadership to all the University’s academic operations. He began this role August 1, 2022, after completing a five-year term as dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS). Before serving as dean, he served on the faculty association executive and as assistant dean in FHSS responsible for budgeting and financial planning. An associate professor of Sociology at TWU since 2008, Todd teaches sociology and family studies. He holds a PhD in sociology of family from the University of British Columbia, a Master of Arts in family studies (UBC), and bachelor's degrees in theology (Ambassador University) and sociology (Wilfrid Laurier University).

Over the past two years, Todd has led the academic division of TWU through the Office of the Provost’s focus to provide Christ-centered academic leadership that equips, edifies, and unifies the academic body for student success and a flourishing university. Under his leadership, deans have begun to develop Academic Strategic Alignment Plans to support the University’s strategic plan, TWU 2030: Every Graduate Equipped.

The Board of Governors has launched an international search for Trinity Western University’s sixth president. The process is being led by board member and board treasurer, Leighton Friesen as chair of the Presidential Search Committee, in coordination with the executive search firm CarterBaldwin. During this presidential search period, Todd is serving as interim president while also continuing in his role as provost.

As Todd commences his expanded role as provost and interim president he remarks, “My time at Trinity Western has been fulfilling and enriching. Much of this is about working with dedicated and committed people. I look forward to continuing with all members of the campus community as we implement our TWU 2030: Every Graduate Equipped strategic plan. Our future depends on each of you and, most critically, on all of us working together. As we enter this chapter of TWU’s development as a global Christian university, we place our hope and trust in Jesus Christ, whose own work on the cross calls us to participate in a greater work that endures. And that is our shared joy and privilege.”

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Todd F. Martin as interim president.
