Dear members of the TWU community,
Each September, we experience a new and fresh start full of promise, hope, and opportunity.
There will be a few moments today—if we take time to pause and enjoy the momentary freedom—before the inevitable responsibilities, classes, assignments, meetings, etc., threaten to fill our imagination and calendars.
As you either begin your time here at Trinity Western or continue with your studies, work, teaching and research, you will find tremendous comfort in the words of James:
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
This celebrated leader of the early church understands that God is faithful, caring, and generous. While beginning a new academic year can present us with the challenge of uncertainty, we have the blessing of a gracious and loving Lord. Indeed, James helps us to find our bearings as we prepare for the next leg of our journey by encouraging us to be people of faith, trusting that “every good and perfect gift” comes from the One whose care is sure and unwavering.
Students, staff, faculty, and families of TWU, whatever this season holds for you, I encourage you to remember that the same God who has known and loved you before the foundation of the world will, should you turn to him in faith, give you all that you need to succeed this year. Again, as James teaches us:
"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt..." (James 1:5-6)
The next few days will be full of exciting new beginnings, and I hope you experience great joy in building and renewing friendships. May we be knit together in learning how to think truthfully, act justly, and live faithfully for the good of the world and the glory of God.
Grace and peace,
