Foundations of Community Care at Trinity Western University during COVID-19

As a global Christian university of close to 5,000 students and 900 employees, we are committed to protecting the health, safety, and flourishing of all students, staff and faculty. We work to ensure the safety and health of our entire population – across four campus locations in Langley, Richmond and Ottawa – while seeking to honour and respect every individual's personal health decisions. Practicing hospitality as a core value, TWU endeavours to care for and support all students, staff and faculty, whatever their circumstances may be.

At Trinity Western University, we are committed  to  providing  a supportive community and safe access to an enriching TWU education.

Together, we as TWU students, families, faculty and staff remain focused on advancing well into the academic year ahead.

Foundations of Community Care

As we enter the new academic year faced with the constraints imposed by BC Public Health orders, we would like to highlight the foundations of TWU community care:

1. TWU is a Christ-centered, student-focused university.

We continue to serve our students, and to help them pursue an enriching year ahead. For students who have been negatively impacted by recent public health orders, we are actively helping them find options. Our Student Services Hub is receiving calls and connecting students with relevant resources, including off-campus housing options, and access to academic counsellors for course options and financial aid.

2. TWU operates within the jurisdiction of the government-issued public health orders.

Like all post-secondary institutions in B.C., TWU falls under the jurisdiction of the government-issued public health orders, in accordance with the BC Public Health Act. As a result, TWU is legally obligated to follow public health orders, which are in place for the protection of public health and safety.

3. TWU respects every student’s choice and decision regarding vaccination.

We acknowledge that every student and family may be facing a unique set of circumstances. We recognize that vaccination is a personal choice.

4. Every student is welcome to study and learn at TWU, regardless of their decision regarding vaccination.

Every TWU student will receive the same high-quality community care and education, regardless of their decision regarding vaccination. TWU staff and faculty are committed to providing a transformative, Christian education and learning experience for students.

Throughout the changing global health landscape of the past many months, TWU’s commitment to our students has been unwavering, and it will remain constant throughout this new academic year.

Our primary call is to educate this generation of godly Christian leaders and to prepare them for lives of meaningful and faithful service to Christ and the common good.

Time-bound, limited,  Proof of Vaccination  Public Health  Order

The recently announced Public Health Order (PHO) is a temporary measure, put in place in response to the latest rise in COVID-19 cases in B.C. and associated risks.

Within post-secondary institutions, the PHO only applies to certain settings, activities and events and does not prevent a person from studying, working, enjoying community, or otherwise accessing campus at TWU.

Where the PHO does not apply

Proof of vaccination is not required for:

  • Classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories

  • Library, Trinity Commons, Collegiums, Student lounges, and other campus public spaces

  • The Main Cafeteria, Bookstore Café, Lower Cafeteria, any campus eating areas

  • Chapel and other faith services

  • Student Life events

  • TW Outfitters (Bookstore)

  • Offices and workspaces

  • Off-campus housing

  • Personal socializing

Proof of vaccination is not required to access in-person learning at Trinity Western University. The current public health orders regarding proof-of-vaccination only applies to certain settings, activities and events. For more details, please visit our Return to Fall page.

Proof of vaccination is not required to access campus in general. All students can access classes, the library and learning commons, cafeterias, collegiums, study halls as well as all outdoor spaces, activities, and events without presenting a BC Vaccine Card.
