How Trinity Western University is emerging stronger from COVID-19

Building the best for our students and graduates

Our desire to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the University required us to take a number of measures at the onset of COVID-19. As a consequence, we are emerging out of the pandemic a more innovative, responsive, spiritually, and academically strong institution. ...Our focus on academic quality, the integration of faith and learning, and the enduring value of the Christian liberal arts, ensures that we can continue to support the dreams and aspirations of our students."

— President Mark Husbands

As the global marketplace evolves, TWU is advancing innovative ways to equip graduates personally and professionally for the post-pandemic world.

Since its founding in 1962, Trinity Western University is a place where students are equipped to live full, faithful, and meaningful lives. A Christian liberal arts education is the ideal setting in which to discover one’s gifts, strengths, and calling. Trinity Western is privileged to advance the work of transformation and the renewing of minds (cf. Romans 12:2).

Amidst a world of change, Trinity Western University focuses on student success, academic excellence, and practical significance. At Trinity Western, helping students to build key skills in critical thinking, collaboration, digital literacy, and moral reflection, etc., follows from our commitment to equip graduates with the knowledge, character, and creativity to make a lasting impact upon the world.

The goal of providing Trinity Western students with an excellent education, requires a regular assessment of the academic quality, financial health, and student demand for all our programs. Institutional assessment is key to improving the overall quality of our education. Trinity Western University has recently completed a year-long audit of its program offerings.

It is common for universities to embark upon program prioritization during a time of financial crisis. Although we began this process at the onset of a global pandemic, Trinity Western is doing well. In 2020, TWU received its highest-ever enrolment. We now have over 5,000 students representing 80 nationalities studying across our campuses and locations in Langley, Richmond, Ottawa, and globally through our educational FAR Centers and international partnerships. Amidst a pandemic, TWU experienced a surprising 6.7% overall growth in enrolment. This year was our fourth consecutive season of year-on-year enrolment growth.

In a letter to the community, President Mark Husbands remarked, "Our desire to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the University required us to take a number of measures at the onset of COVID-19. As a consequence, we are emerging out of the pandemic a more innovative, responsive, spiritually, and academically strong institution."

He continued, "We are humbled by the tremendous sacrifices of our staff and faculty. We value the decision that thousands of students and families have made to invest in a TWU education. In return, we are dedicated to managing with care the valuable gifts and resources that God has entrusted to us. Chief among these gifts, are the lives and dreams of our students. Our focus on academic quality, the integration of faith and learning, and the enduring value of the Christian liberal arts, ensures that we can continue to support the dreams and aspirations of our students."
