citizenship award recipients 2020

Monique Bouchard and Joshua Onwugbonu awarded TWU citizenship awards outstanding service

Each year, two citizenship awards are granted to graduating male and female students who were judged to have made outstanding contributions to Trinity Western University in terms of citizenship, service and overall impact on the spirit and wellbeing of the University.

Members of the graduating class nominated those who they believed were worthy of such recognition. Faculty, staff, third and fourth year students then voted to determine the final recipients.

This year’s recipients of the TWU citizenship award are Monique Bouchard and Joshua Onwugbonu.

Rob Rhea, Associate VP Student Life, speaks on the contributions of Bouchard and Onwugbonu.

“Monique Bouchard has been a leader at TWU from the moment she arrived,” said Rhea. “She has served in many capacities of Student Leadership on campus and throughout her tenure as a student. She began getting involved right when she arrived through applying for and being selected as the Freshman Events Coordinator (only one student is selected). She went on to be a Resident Assistant the following year. In her third year she served as the Student Association President, being the youngest person ever to serve in that role, at 19 years old. She moved from that role directly to being a Parliamentary Intern at TWU’s Laurentian Leadership Centre.”

“Once back on campus for her senior year, she was an Intern with MarComm. She also served as the President of TWU’s Conservative Club. In the summer of 2020, she married TWU alum Austin Driedger and is now living in North Carolina, as Austin is currently in an executive leadership training program with Chic-Fil-A.”

Regarding Onwugbonu, Rhea said, “Josh Onwugbonu has distinguished himself as a creative force on campus and as a man of talents. He is a musician, serving in a traveling music team through our Global Projects office. He continued his connection to music through a regular involvement with Chapel ministries.”

“One of Josh’s primary contributions has been as a media developer. He graduated in April 2020 with a SAMC degree in design. He served as a Media Intern in Student Life in his senior year, developing social media content and strategies, as well as video and advertising projects. He has been especially influential in developing the branding and media pieces for chapel and the chapel podcast. He moved directly into a full-time role in Student Life where his role has expanded into helping set the media strategy for the division. He is known as a very collaborative person with high standards. He has been a great part of the Student Life team.”

Congratulations, Monique Bouchard and Joshua Onwugbonu!
