TWU’s 50th year is worthy of a fantastic season of theatre, and the School of the Arts, Media and Culture is up to the task. Audience favourites from Agatha Christie and Jane Austen will be highlights of SAMC Theatre’s 2012-2013 season, along with student-directed shows and even some original creations.
Go Back For Murder starts things off with mystery and a touch of romance. A scandalous murder case becomes an obsession for the strong and beautiful heroine, who believes her mother was framed in the mysterious death of her father and will stop at nothing to find the truth. As it turns out, this smart young woman might just find love along the way. Adapted by Agatha Christie herself from the original hit novel, this classic whodunit is directed by Lloyd Arnett and plays October 23 – November 3.
Directed by Jessie Award winner Angela Konrad, Picture This! runs November 20 – December 1. Brimming with nostalgia and holiday warmth, this visual and musical journey is a SAMC original—devised collectively by an ensemble of senior students from SAMC Theatre’s BA and BFA programs.
In the New Year, SAMC’s popular New Generations festival returns with a variety of short plays running back-to-back. Featuring the work of promising playwrights and directors, the one-week festival will light up the TWU campus January 29 – February 2.
Jane Austen’s beloved Emma will close the season with mischief and matchmaking. You’ll want to book tickets early for this romantic favourite, playing March 12 – 23 under the direction of Aaron Caleb (who helmed last season’s sold-out Fiddler on the Roof).
Tickets will be available online this fall for the entire season. To book yours or find more information, visit www.twu.ca/theatre or email theatre@twu.ca.
