Oscar Krueger Brightens Up Trinity Western With $80k Donation in High Efficiency Light Fixtures

"By installing these LED lights we are effectively reducing our overall power consumption. This promotes energy efficiency at our Langley campus, and helps the University operate in ways that are more environmentally and fiscally responsible."

— Paul Weme, TWU Vice President of Philanthropy

Trinity Western University is greatful to Mr. Oscar Krueger of Krueger Electric, who has generously donated approximately $80,000 in light fixtures to the University. The donation consisted of 600 units of 2x2 LED flat panels and 500 units of LED lamps.

"By installing these LED lights we are effectively reducing our overall power consumption," said Paul Weme, TWU Vice President of Philanthropy. "This promotes energy efficiency at our Langley campus, and helps the University operate in ways that are more environmentally and fiscally responsible."

Jo Jansen, TWU Executive Director of Campus Services, remarked that the gift would "completely upgrade the entire lighting needs" for Reimer Student Centre, a central building on TWU's Langley campus that houses the Main Cafeteria; the Trinity Commons, a multifunctional community space; as well as the Student Life department, among other key University departments.

"This will not only allow us to replace very old and outdated light fixtures, it will also project a fresh, clean lighting spectrum with greater lumins," Jansen said. "Furthermore, because the fixtures are high efficiency, the University should be eligible for Hydro rebates, as well as lower monthly operating costs, once the new lights are installed."

Mr. Krueger's gift will also help the University to replace the lighting in the Reimer Student Centre underground parkade, providing greater safety and accessibility for staff, students and visitors.

The University has already installed some lighting fixtures from Mr. Krueger's previous donation, and the plan is to install all the gifted fixtures over the next few months. Mr. Krueger has also generously gifted the TWU Nursing department with approximately 1,000 pieces of N95 face masks, providing extra protection to front-line healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
