"Be there" is the theme of this year's Bell Let’s Talk Day on January 28 that focuses on mental health, a topic that is especially salient during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ryan Schutt is TWU's Mental Health Services Team Lead. Recently he wrote an article for the TWU community, describing the power of beauty for bringing renewal in the midst of despair. "This past year was a year of tectonic shifts in our world, communities, families, and in our own individual lives," Schutt observed. "We met loneliness, isolation, despair, anxiety, and grief face-to-face."
"There is no doubt that existing mental health struggles or illnesses have been exacerbated," he said, noting that many health care professionals have referred to Canada's mental health needs as the "fourth wave of the pandemic."
Schutt is a graduate of TWU's Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology program and a Canadian Certified Counsellor.
