This year, the TWU graduation planning team wanted to make sustainability a priority. To minimize waste from the 2022 graduation events, the planning team came up with a creative idea: to use young trees for stage décor with the intent of later planting them on campus.
During TWU’s commencement ceremonies at the end of April, living trees graced the stage that graduands crossed during this significant moment of their lives. Afterwards, the trees were carefully moved back to TWU’s Langley campus where they were lovingly planted by TWU’s Campus Facilities team.
Fifteen new Emerald Cedars have been planted just west of the newly-renovated DeVries Centre, home to the School of Education. As the trees continue to grow, we hope that the graduating class of 2022 will continue to flourish as well.
“All year round, we work to beautify the campus while making wise choices to help sustain the natural environment. We are excited to have these new trees join the existing greenery throughout TWU,” said Kalyan Thapa, Grounds Manager.
John Ringness, Director of Facility Services, highlights the pride that Facility Services takes in providing quality services to the University. "We believe we are God’s stewards of the grounds and the buildings we are responsible for maintaining," John said. "Kal, thanks, for providing a high level of expertise and leadership to our Grounds team here at Trinity Western University.”
This month, fifteen new Emerald Cedars have been planted just west of the newly-renovated DeVries Centre, home to the School of Education. President Mark Husbands took part in the planting process.
As the trees continue to grow, we hope that the graduating class of 2022 will continue to flourish as well.
