Trinity Western University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Scott Macklin as the new Associate Vice President (AVP) of TWU Online. This new role underscores our commitment to expanding access to high-quality, faith-based education through innovative online learning options.
In this role, Dr. Macklin will oversee the development and delivery of fully online, asynchronous educational programs at TWU, a key initiative of our strategic plan, TWU 2030: Every Graduate Equipped.
Reporting to Dr. Phil Laird (vice president of Innovation, Global, and Academic Partnerships), the AVP plays a pivotal role in ensuring that TWU Online provides the high level of academic excellence, meaningful student experience, and Christian faith integration that attracts students and families to Trinity Western.
Providing faith-based education around the globe
“As Trinity Western continues to expand its mission of providing high-quality, faith-based education to learners around the globe, TWU Online represents our commitment to offering flexible, innovative learning options,” said Dr. Laird. “Dr. Macklin will be instrumental in shaping the development of TWU’s fully asynchronous online education, ensuring that our programs meet the highest academic standards while delivering exceptional student support and engagement.”
Scott Macklin holds a PhD in Economics and Development Studies from Nelson Mandela University and an MPhilF in Philosophy and Aesthetics from the Institute for Christian Studies in Toronto.
Leading up to this appointment, Dr. Macklin has served as TWU’s executive director for GLOBAL Online Learning since 2019, and he was the interim dean for the School of the Arts, Media + Culture (SAMC) from 2022 to August 2024. Dr. David Squires will serve as interim dean for SAMC starting in August 2024.
Macklin’s previous experience includes a notable tenure at the University of Washington, where he served in various leadership roles, including being director of Integrated Learning and Innovation. His work there included leading a team in the development of competency-based courses and facilitating the distribution of courses through a network of over 150 institutions.
