Trinity Western University announces new School of Business dean

Trinity Western University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Mark Lee as the new dean of the School of Business commencing August 16, 2024.

Dr. Mark Lee, a professor of business for over 18 years, teaches business strategy, management, and organizational leadership in the undergraduate and graduate programs at TWU’s School of Business. He served as director of MBA programs from 2006 to 2009 and 2018 to 2020.

Holding an MBA in finance and a doctorate in strategic human resource management, Dr. Lee brings over 40 years of business leadership experience in a variety of organizations from the service sector, medical technology, mining, manufacturing, and academia, as a CEO, COO, CFO, consultant, and professor. In these various roles, he has completed eight successful turnarounds in various companies and organizations. In addition, he has led and managed organizations varying in size from 300 employees to over 2,500 employees, with revenues ranging from $14 million to over $300 million. Dr. Lee has extensive experience in growing company revenues, while ensuring lean operating structures. Most recently, he led a Canadian-based research and product development company Ocumetics Technology Corp. for over 12 years, which he took public in 2021.

In addition to his professional acumen, Mark has published extensively on topics related to organizational decision-making, organizational governance, and employee well-being as it connects to corporate performance. He won a Best Research Publication in Journal Award for his research on organizational decision-making models, and a membership award from the International Academy of Business and Economics (IABE) for his contribution to the IABE’s mission of the advancement of research through the international exchange of ideas.

Dr. Lee will be taking on the mantle from the current dean, Kevin Sawatsky, JD, who has faithfully served for multiple terms and is presently involved in the process of seeking accreditation by AACSB International for TWU’s School of Business. Professor Sawatsky will fulfill his current five-year term effective August 15, 2024 and looks forward to returning to the classroom and his first love of teaching.
