Trinity Western University's 2022 fall graduation ceremony honours over 550 graduands from TWU GLOBAL and graduate programs

Graduation at Trinity Western University happens twice a year, in the spring and in the fall.

This year’s fall graduation ceremony took place on Saturday, November 5, at the university’s Langley main campus. Faculty and staff joined many TWU families and friends to celebrate the achievements of over 550 soon-to-be graduates of the fall semester.

Canadian hockey player and coach is fall valedictorian

Canadian hockey player and coach with Trinity Western Spartans women’s hockey team, Sarah Potomak, is the 2022 graduate valedictorian for the fall graduating class.

Graduating with a Master of Arts in Leadership, Potomak’s Team Canada career highlights include winning a silver medal at the 2017 IIHF Women's World Championship. She was also part of Canada's centralized National Women's Team during the 2017-18 season. This weekend, Potomak needed to be at a hockey event in Halifax and was unable to attend her graduation ceremony in-person; however, she successfully appeared by video to deliver her valedictorian speech to students and families gathered in Langley.

TWU’s fall graduation ceremony is special because—unlike the spring ceremony that involves graduates from all programs—the fall ceremony is primarily for those completing the TWU GLOBAL Degree Completion programs, as well as those completing graduate studies.

Welcoming students from around the world

TWU’s fall graduation ceremony is special because—unlike the spring ceremony that involves graduates from all programs—the fall ceremony is primarily for those completing the TWU GLOBAL Degree Completion programs, as well as those completing graduate studies — including Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Arts in Leadership, Master of Science in Nursing, and Master of Arts in Educational Studies in Special Education, among other programs.

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) program congratulated 200 graduands, while the Bachelor of Arts in Leadership program lauded 235 graduands.

Dr. Phil Laird, Vice President of Innovation, Global and Academic Partnerships and Vice Provost of TWU GLOBAL, was the commencement speaker at this year’s fall ceremonies.

Dr. Laird’s work in expanding TWU’s education globally has helped many students around the world have the chance to earn a Canadian degree. Trinity Western now has educational partnerships with schools and colleges in countries including India, Nigeria, Uganda, Cameroon, and Iran.

Students at Trinity Western’s partner organizations can take TWU courses online with the support of a personal advising coach, and complete up to half their TWU degree in their home country before completing the next part at the University’s campuses in Canada.
