On July 31, Trinity Western University alum Regan Yee ('18, South Hazelton, B.C.) made her Olympic debut in the 3000m steeplechase and finished eighth in her heat with a time of 9:41.14.
Running in sweltering heat, Yee, who entered the Games as Canada's 3000m steeplechase record holder (9:27.54) and national champion, finished with the 29th fastest time in the competition, but, with the top three in each heat and the next six fastest times qualifying for the finals, Yee's result wasn't enough to earn a place in the final.

Yee booked her ticket to Tokyo when she earned the qualifying standard on the last day of qualification, winning with a then Canadian record time (9:27.54) at the La Classique d'athlétisme de Montréal. However, in the first heat of the Olympic competition, fellow Canadian Geneviève Lalonde broke Yee's national record with a time of 9:22.64.
Prior to the Olympics, Yee's last major international competition was in the fall of 2019 when she competed in the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. She finished 11th in her heat in 9:48.56.
