TWU Alumna Joins COVID-19 Relief Efforts in Italy

TWU alumna Bev Kauffeldt (’93, ’03) is no stranger to global pandemics. 

In 2005, Kauffeldt moved to Monrovia, Liberia to serve with Samaritans Purse during the Ebola crisis. For over a decade, Kauffeldt served the sick and needy in services including water and sanitation, health, child protection, adult literacy, ministry training, agricultural programs, children’s programming, and church and pastoral training.

Reflecting on her years in Monrovia, Kauffeldt says, “As Christians we need to be willing to go to places of suffering. Our hearts need to break with those things that break the heart of God.”

It is clear that Kauffeldt's heart continues to break for the pain and suffering of this world.

Recently, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy, Kauffeldt returned to the heart of a crisis.

Together with about 20 other Canadians, Kauffeldt served at a COVID-19 field hospital in Cremona, Northern Italy.

In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Kauffeldt reported that her latest mission fighting COVID-19 in Cremona was "a success and a great learning experience."
