TWU Assistant Professor Doug Atha considers the risks and opportunities of a post-COVID-19 economy for businesses in Western Canada

In the era of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing economic fallout, businesses face an untested and unforeseen future. Within this context, Doug Atha, Assistant Professor in the Master of Arts in Leadership program, believes that Canadians need a "rekindling of innovation to assess the viability of our organizational strategies and plans for the future."

Recently, Atha published an article in Western Talent & Innovation Review on the topic, "Strategizing Employee Shared Ownership Plans (ESOPs) for Business Success." He writes, "There is a need to see the future with new eyes that consider the advantages and pitfalls this fluid future represents. This time it is COVID-19, major stock market crashes, multiple industry shutdowns and a general uncertainty about how all this fits into the future we thought we had under control."

Atha explores the risks and opportunities that Canadian business in general, and Western Canadian businesses in particular, face today. He believes that Employee Shared Ownership Plans can help employers to collaborate with employees, with the result of augmenting employees' commitment and building a future of shared success.
