May 24, 2018, Langley, BC: Trinity Western University congratulates Bart Millard, Senior Advisor for the university’s Worship Arts program, on his band Mercy Me winning the Top Christian Artist award at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards on May 20.
Mercy Me was nominated for three 2018 Billboard Music Award categories: Top Christian Album and Top Christian Song as well as Top Christian Artist.
In 2017 Bart Millard partnered with TWU to help relaunch the university’s Worship Arts program with a uniquely balanced approach. Students study Worship alongside another concentration in Liberal Arts. The program aims to equip tomorrow’s worship leaders, artists, and songwriters with the theological depth, musical expertise, and practical experience they need to impact their churches, their communities, and the culture around them.
Bart Millard’s story is the inspiration behind the new indie film I Can Only Imagine. Released in March 2018, the film surpassed expectations at the box office earning a top three overall spot opening weekend. As of May 13, I Can Only Imagine is the third-highest grossing music biopic film of all-time in the United States.
