TWU's School of Education launched the 2022 Educational Insight Series on the evening of Feb. 10, 2022 with an engaging talk by Dr. Ken Badley on the topic, "Redeeming Teaching: from Fractured to Flourishing."
Dr. Badley was joined by a TWU panel that included teacher candidate Roisin Castellon, alum Jen Jacobson, and Assistant Professor of Education Dr. Yu-Ling Lee.
Dr. Badley (Professor by Special Appointment at Tyndale University) explored the pressures and trends now confronting teachers: standardization, a fracturing society, disregard for expertise, and the pandemic. He discussed how, despite the challenges, teachers can work to foster human flourishing. A question posed by panelist Dr. Yu-Ling Lee was, "How does flourishing happen for teachers and students, and how can professors enable that to happen?" Roisin Castellon contributed her experiences of wrestling with how to authentically integrate diversity into high school curriculum, while Jen Jacobson, a teacher in the Langley school district, emphasized how the professional community is so important for teachers' flourishing.
The online and in-person event was attended by over 100 people.
