TWU Global and MA Leadership program faculty speak on "Thriving in Challenging Times" and the realties of online teaching and learning

One year into the pandemic, TWU educators reflect on their personal and professional journeys, as well as those of their students during this past year of teaching and learning.

In a conversation facilitated by Dr. Adrienne Castellon, Assistant Professor of Leadership and Associate Dean of MA Leadership, TWU MA Leadership alumni and faculty members, Lili Sha, Emmanuel Denguessi and Stacy Sowerby shared their insights, along with words of wisdom related to spiritual, physical, and academic wellbeing.

Denguessi shared how he had family members in Europe and in Africa who suffered difficult recoveries from COVID-19, "I have experienced firsthand someone being affected by the virus...and (feeling) that you're powerless, you cannot be there with them and help them." He also shared about the challenges of home-schooling his own children during the early months of the pandemic. "I struggled...it was hard," he said, to which Dr. Castellon replied, "You aren't alone in that, that's for sure." Sowerby shared how this year provided an opportunity for "forced reflection," which helped her realize that "it's really good to have boundaries and to say no sometimes." Sowerby and her family have spent more time together, going for walks and enjoying one another's company. Lili Sha said, "I have faith that God will not give us more than we can handle." She has appreciated the help and support from her team at TWU, and commented, "We complete everything...because I have the support and the faith...(that's why) I can do it."
