TWU professor honoured by the Association of BC Deans of Education

On Friday, May 10th, the Trinity Western University School of Education hosted the annual BC Teacher Education Roundtable Conference. TWU Dean of Education Kimberly Franklin, Ed.D., officiated the conference and presented the Association of BC Deans of Education’s (ABCDE) annual awards. This year, ABCDE selected TWU Professor Emeritus Harro Van Brummelen, Ed.D., as recipient of the award for Lifelong Service to Education.

Van Brummelen was the first Dean of Education at TWU, guiding the Bachelor of Education program through its many developmental stages, and more recently designing its new master’s program. He was also a founding member of ABCDE in 2003, and its first Chair. Since 1977, Dr. Van Brummelen has been a significant figure in BC Education, having diligently served for several years on the province’s Degree Quality Assessment Board in the Ministry of Advanced Education. He has authored two textbooks published in several languages, and has been a frequent speaker internationally.

Dean Franklin also presented awards for to Linda Farr Darling, Director of the Teacher Education Program delivered by UBC in partnership with Selkirk College in Castlegar and school districts in the West Kootenays, and the award to Karen Nelson, Superintendent of Schools for School District #78.

Winners of the three awards each received an engraved plaque and a cheque for $100. ABCDE initiated its annual awards program in 2005.
