TWU Richmond leaders show community care, share Christmas cheer

Words by Nono Shen of Richmond News

Christmas isn’t here yet, but students from Trinity Western University (TWU) Richmond campus are already receiving surprise Christmas packages from the school’s faculty.

More than 150 gift bags have been distributed to the doorsteps of students to celebrate the upcoming holiday season. Each bag is filled with candies, a neck-pillow, homemade cookies, and a handwritten card listing each student’s strengths and telling them how much they’re valued.

In addition to those goodies, staff also printed photos of themselves to cheer up students without families.

“We want to remind them every time you look at this, you aren’t alone,” noted Chen.“International students have a bit of a challenge as their families aren’t around, especially at Christmas time. We hope to support them and make them get through the whole year,” said Kim Chen, the director of student life at TWU Richmond, who organized the Christmas package delivery with the help of 12 student leaders.

Meanwhile, students from the Richmond campus also delivered practical supplies to those in need after getting inspired by their teachers.

A local church approached TWU earlier this month to see if its students would be willing to help deliver basic necessities to families struggling financially. Many of the students who participated in this initiative felt grateful for the chance to give back to their community, added Chen.
