TWU Spartans alum Joel Waterman named to Canada's national team camp squad

Trinity Western alum Joel Waterman (Aldergrove, B.C.) will take yet another step forward in his fast-burgeoning career, as he was invited to be part of Canada's January 2021 Men's National Team camp presented by Allstate, in Bradenton, Fla at the IMG Center. Waterman's invitation to the national camp marks a piece of history for TWU men's soccer, as he will become the first Spartan to take part in a senior men's camp.

The preparatory camp has been set outside the FIFA calendar and will provide Canada one last opportunity to connect on the pitch before FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers are scheduled to begin in March 2021.

Waterman, who played his final season with the Spartans in the fall of 2018, captaining TWU to a Canada West silver medal and a fourth-place finish at the U SPORTS championship, is earning his first-ever call up to a Canadian national team at any level. However, the five-year Spartan, who was a Canada West First Team All-Star in his final year at TWU, is a former member of Canada Soccer's National Training Centre Program in British Columbia.

Since graduating from TWU, Waterman played his 2019 season in the Canadian Premier League with Cavalry FC before being transferred to the Montréal Impact (Major League Soccer) for the 2020 campaign. Waterman made seven MLS appearances this past season, including earning six starts. He initially joined the Impact after signing a two-year contract with the club, with options for 2022 and 2023.
