A group of athletes from Trinity Western's rugby teams have teamed up to give back to the community and teach about the sport and living a healthy lifestyle.
Partnering with four different schools in Langley, including Wix Brown Elementary, West Langley Elementary, Alice Brown Elementary, and Langley Fine Arts School, the group of 14 Spartan athletes taught PE classes for students in Grades 6-8 throughout October and November 2020.
"The TWU rugby players did a great job of engaging my grade 7 students and made rugby learning accessible and fun. We had a blast and it sparked interest in the sport in my students who had no previous exposure to it," said Travis Vandenberg, Grade 7 Teacher at Langley Fine Arts School.
Andrew Evans, Spartan Rugby Director, said, "We (TWU Rugby) are not here for ourselves but want to empower strong female leaders and build the men of tomorrow. We see a need for more physical activity opportunities for all youth, and want to be good examples that encourage them, especially during this pandemic."
