On Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten period leading up to Easter, Dr. Dwight Friesen reflects on how society's reception of the Christ story is sometimes mediated through cinematic production. "Thanks to COVID-19, we will continue to develop new sensibilities and skills with which to mediate and experience the Christ story," he observed. He reflected on how techniques like the Kuleshov’s effect influences audience perception of a story, adding, "It may even influence our journey through the Christian calendar this season, which will inevitably involve carefully edited productions from increasingly sophisticated digital media creatives in faith communities."
