Barbara Ann Hofmann, PhD
Barbara completed her Bachelor of Education at UBC Vancouver and has enjoyed teaching both in Vancouver and Kelowna for the past 15 years with a focus on inquiry and project-based learning in the sciences. Hiking, running, cycling, kayaking, and swimming are favorite pastimes.
- BEd Middle Years (University of British Columbia; August, 2004)
- PhD Geotechnical Engineering (University of Alberta; January, 1997)
- MSc (Distinction) Civil Engineering (University of Alberta; May, 1989)
- BSc (Distinction) Civil Engineering (University of Alberta; May, 1985)
Expertise
With 15 years of teaching science and mathematics in elementary, middle, and high school, Dr. Hofmann enjoys sharing effective inquiry and project-based learning techniques in the classroom. Proactive problem-solving is another area of interest and Dr. Hofmann enjoys challenges ranging from classroom management, to relationship building, and Geotechnical Design solutions.
Dr. Hofmann thoroughly enjoyed completing a PhD on utilizing in-situ ground freezing, with liquid nitrogen, to obtain undisturbed samples of sand for assessment of liquefaction potential during earthquakes.
