David Chong, EdD, RSW, RCC-ACS

Part-Time Instructor of Leadership

Dr. Chong was born and raised in Hong Kong and spent his adolescent years in Victoria, BC. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Work (Child Welfare Specialization) from the University of Victoria where he also studied Health Information Science. He earned a Master of Social Work degree from the University of British Columbia, a second Master's degree in Health Research (Mental Health) from Lancaster University, and a Doctorate degree from the University of Liverpool. In 2023, Dr. Chong joined the Master of Arts Leadership Program at Trinity Western University as a part-time faculty member.

Dr. Chong has a wide-ranging background in social work, clinical counselling, psychotherapy, and marriage and family therapy. His dedication to the pracademic philosophy is evident in his role as Director of Counselling and Psychotherapy in private practice at Richmond, BC. He also operates a community pharmacy, bringing a diverse perspective to his approach to healthcare. He has held various clinical positions within a British Columbia-based health authority.

Additionally, he mentors graduate students in Counselling Psychology across multiple Master’s programs as a Clinical Supervisor. He is recognized for introducing innovative programs aimed at improving patient care and mental health services, particularly in the realm of integrated care models that encourage collaboration among healthcare professionals. His commitment to holistic and patient-centered approaches has had a profound impact on the training of healthcare professionals. Furthermore, his research focuses on enhancing inter-professional collaboration among healthcare clinicians to improve patient outcomes, communication, and the overall delivery of healthcare services.
