David Owen Squires, PhD
Long-time professor, mentor, worship curator, and composer, David Squires is Professor of Music in the School of the Arts, Media + Culture at Trinity Western University in Langley BC, Canada. David holds performance and composition degrees from University of Western Ontario and University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. (Composition) from SUNY at Buffalo. David is also a student of Celtic spirituality, and has twice spent time on the island of Iona in Scotland’s Inner Hebrides, whose Celtic Christian roots go back to the sixth century. He has taught on faith and the arts across Canada, and in the United Kingdom and Taiwan; and has led numerous student and alumni tours of major European cultural centres, with a focus on arts, culture and faith. Alongside his career in the academy, David has been a worship pastor and curator for numerous churches across Canada. He composes chamber, choral, and orchestral music, for amateurs, students and professional musicians. His music has been performed across Canada, and in the United States, Eastern Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan. The TWU Choirs recently commissioned his sacred oratorio Gardens to be premiered in spring 2023.
